Amazon.com Review
In just 14 days, beginning and advanced brewers alike can enjoy a glass of premium, handcrafted beer with this home-brewing kit. The 2-1/2-gallon brewing keg features a pour tap and wide-mouth lid for easy cleaning by hand. Included with this starter kit are a can of West Coast Pale Ale mix, which produces twenty 12-ounce bottles of mild, full-bodied beer, and a single-use packet of booster, which contains all-natural carbohydrates that enhance flavor and boost alcohol content. The beer-making ingredients are simply mixed with water, left to brew in the keg at room temperature for a week, and then put into bottles (not included) for another week, during which time natural carbonation takes place. No carbon-dioxide cartridges are needed to enhance sparkle or beer head. A dozen plastic bottle caps printed with the Mr. Beer logo are also included, as well as an instruction booklet full of brewing tips and recipes. Other Mr. Beer mixes and booster packs can be ordered separately. The keg is made of FDA-compliant PVC, which does not impart taste or color, and is virtually indestructible. --Ann Bieri

3 out of 5 stars Father's Day   July 16, 2010

I only rated this a 3 because I gave it to my father for father's day and he hasn't used it yet, so I can't comment on that. But the packaging and shipping was great.

5 out of 5 stars Great product, GREAT BEER!!!   July 5, 2010
E. Soboll (North East Africa)
Got to the States from Africa and started the process 3 weeks ago. Yesterday opened my first bottle and it is AMAZING!!! I started with the Oktoberfest and it does taste so good. I added one tbs of brown sugar to the wort as suggested on a review and it is just awesome!
The process is simple, the wait is not bad, the amount is perfect and the result is cheaper than buying in the store.
As soon as I bottled the first batch, I started the second one with an American Classic Ale. Nothing is better than coming home after playing a soccer game and open a bottle of cold and delicious home made beer.
Highly recommended... after trying, you will never go back to the store to buy beer! Will bring a kit with me to Africa!

5 out of 5 stars Great kit for the casual brewer (don't listen to the homebrew snobs)   May 19, 2010

I am no expert brewer, but I have brewed three batches in my Mr Beer kit, and they were all fine. I drank every last drop of each batch. The homebrew community tends to rail on this kit as being amatueristic, producing bad beer, etc. In my opinion, this kit is lots of fun and makes brewing beer really easy. Each time I brew, I get a kick out of how you can mix up a batch of ingredients, sprinkle in some yeast, wait, then though the magic of nature...beer happens!

I have had no problems with the plastic caps or bottles at all. In fact, everything has worked out fine each time I have made beer. If you can get the kit on sale, it's totally worth it to try it once. Now, if you are home brewing in order to save money on beer, then this kit isn't for you. Brewing a batch of beer in this kit doesn't cost that much less than buying beer at the store. The reason to brew it is simply because it's fun. And this is an easy way to get started.

5 out of 5 stars Love it!   April 7, 2010

This is my first beer-making experience and it doesn't get any easier. I actually like the Pale Ale mix that comes with the kit. I did not follow the instructions to the letter, i.e. I chilled the wort right after boiling, before adding the yeast. I put the whole thing( pot) in a sink full of ice. The result was a mix that remained clear throughout the 10 days I allowed for fermenting. The room temp was in the 60s for the most part. I could smell around the lid( DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN) that something was fermenting, so I didn't panic.

When it came to bottling I noticed the yeast sediment on the bottom, but the thing was still clear. I mixed it in, added some sugar, and used a variety of bottles( mostly twist off, regular beer bottles, some swing tops and a 2 L bottle of Coke.) None of the bottles popped and they held very well. The beer was not quite an ale, but more of a lager. Very clean taste, decent alcohol amount and great carbonation. Again, crystal clear.

I just ordered the Bohemian Pilsner, but I have to drink this batch first.

5 out of 5 stars Makes a good brew   December 8, 2009

IF you follow the directions provided with the kit you will be pleasantly surprised that you can make a quality home brew in a relatively short time. In my experience, however, the advertised "Quality Home Brew in 14-days" is a relative possibility appreciated by few. Most users find that if you leave the brew "wort" in the keg for 14-days, carbonate according to instructions for another 14 days, and age for another 14-days, that you will find a far superior beer compared to 7-days in the keg and 7 days carbonating. The end result is a beer that gives the satisfaction of having done it yourself, and the ability to learn how to brew and even adjust your recipes. The Mr Beer website has a forum that will answer any question you may have.

If you're a beginner, and you want to start off inexpensively and easily, Mr Beer can't be beat.

With the deluxe kit you will have to provide 14 dark plastic soda bottles with caps. Any PET plastic bottle that has held a carbonated drink will suffice.

Happy Brewing!
